1. Game process

In blackjack, a dealer and one or more players sit opposite each other. As a player, you take a seat at a blackjack table, where you will find various information such as the payout percentages, as well as a field for your bets. The dealer has access to a deck of cards, which usually consists of 4 to 8 individual decks.

At the beginning of the game, the dealer deals the cards to both himself and the players. But note the following:

After the games have received their first two cards, they decide in turn whether they want to draw another card, double the bet, split the hand or even give up directly.

If you think you already have a hand that beats the dealer, declare the round over by choosing to stop. Now it's the banker's turn and he decides for himself whether to take another card. If he does not draw another card, the round is completed and the player either loses his bet or receives his win.

However, according to the blackjack rules, it can also happen that the round is completed directly after the player and he no longer makes a decision to the dealer. This always happens when the player gets over the 21 points. In this case, the player loses the bet immediately, no matter what number of points the dealer has.

If the player initially receives an ace and a picture or 10, this is called a Natural Blackjack. In this case, the player receives his winnings directly, provided that the dealer does not also have a blackjack.

2. Card values

The cards in blackjack have the values already known from other board games. The hand used is usually the French 52-card hand. The value of the cards is determined by the value of the number that can be seen on the card. Pictures are always worth 10 points. The ace is worth either 1 point or 11. It depends on the value of the other cards. If the sum of the hand exceeds 21 and you have an ace, the value of this card will automatically change to 1, thereby preventing it from burning.

3. Rules

You probably already know that you have to beat the dealer in blackjack. In fact, the goal of the game is to get closer to the number 21 with a sum on two or more cards than the dealer. If you succeed, you have won. If you fail, you have lost or, in the event of a draw (push), you will get your bet back.

Now there are several actions or decisions that you have to make along the way. Doubling or "Double Down" is the setting of another bet of the same value. After doubling, the player receives exactly one more card - after that the round is over for him, there is a showdown with the dealer. Doubling is always worthwhile if the probability of winning by drawing another card is higher than a defeat.

In some situations, it may be beneficial to split the hand. But how does it work?

As a player, you can split any hand consisting of two cards of the same kind. So, for example, you can divide two queens and two kings, but not one queen and one king. You now have to place another bet on them and get two more cards. After that, play with two separate hands. Only if you split two aces, you will only receive exactly one more card per hand.

A special case arises when you receive a similar card again after a split. For example, you have divided two 8s and then picked up another 8. If you want, you can divide them one more time - and continue playing with 3 hands.

✅ Task

In about 10 percent of casinos, you can give up right after receiving the first two cards. In this case, you will have to give half of your bet to the bank. This can actually be the right decision in certain situations and is not just for cowards.

✅ Insurance

We do not want to hide the possibility of insurance. It is allowed to pay another bet of the same amount as insurance. In the case of a blackjack on the part of the dealer, the player receives a win of twice the amount of the bet plus the bet back in this way. However, keep in mind that the original bet is lost.

The bottom line is that insurance can ensure that you as a player still win money even if you lose. But this does not mean that you should pay the insurance, because the probability that the dealer has a blackjack is relatively low.
